Hi there,
I recently joined as a member and I'm really loving the looking of the film simulations. I own an X100F and wanted to get more flavor SOOC from my sony. However, recently I've read on reddit and other websites that picture profiles are/should be used for video only. Should these film simulations only be used for video and how usable are the JPEGS? Fuji JPEGs get so much hype, yet Sony JPEGs seem to get dunked on a lot. Would love to get some feedback on this. Thanks.
There is an article on Sony's official website which I cannot find right now, but sony mentions something like " if the picture profiles are used for stills and intended for RAW processing, the images will only carry on only some of the picture profile settings"
While Sony mentions the picture Profile menu is mainly intended for videos, it also mentions it can be used for photo modes and does not exclude the fact that people will use it for Photography purposes.
Since many of the Picture Profile settings will not translate into the RAW files, I created a Sony Film Preset pack for both Lightroom and Capture One to have a seamless workflow with the film simulations, just like with the Fuji system.
Hopefully people find it helpful, I know how important it is to have a seamless workflow and reduce time post processing.

Hope you're having a lovely day ! :D
Sony claims Picture Profiles are used for Videos but that doesn't mean you can't use them for pictures. Veres goes in depth about this in his youtube videos but the usage of picture profiles gives you more control in terms of shadows, highlights, color phase, color depth, saturation etc. You can use his film simulations for SOOC JPGS no problem but I believe his receipes are simulating actual film stock rather than digital ones from FujiFilm X100* series.
