Amarelo 30D film recipe on Sony a6700 | Freshly Baked series

Updated: Apr 29

See color in a whole new way! The Amarelo 30D film recipe draws inspiration from Men I Trust - Show Me How, a Super 8mm-shot video known for its warm amber-yellow skin tones and rich teal skies.

The Aesthetic Appeal

In a world of photography dominated by "safe" edits and the ubiquitous teal-and-orange look, finding a style that feels truly distinct is a rare win. And I will admit,m the Amarelo 30D won't be a popular look for everyone. It’s bold, it’s specific, and it doesn’t try to please the masses.

This film simulation leans into warm, golden skin tones—giving subjects a sun-kissed glow that feels full of life. By shifting skin slightly toward yellow, it enhances warmth without looking unnatural, making portraits pop, especially in natural light. During golden hour, this effect gets even better, with colors that feel effortlessly vibrant.

On the other hand, the teal skies introduce a cool contrast, perfectly balancing the warmth of yellow/amber skin tones. This interplay of complementary colors—rich yellows and deep teals—adds depth, dimension, and a cinematic quality that feels both nostalgic and immersive.

But the real magic? The sky is ever-changing. Depending on the light and conditions, it can shift between a bright teal to a soft magenta, creating a subtle yet mesmerizing variation that makes every frame feel unique.

Will This Work on My Camera?

This recipe is a bit of a "diva" because it pushes color science so far. Even on the new a6700 it took a lot of tweaking to get the skin tones looking like a healthy amber instead of a "yucky" yellow.

If you’re shooting on an older Sony model, keep an eye on your greens—older sensors might struggle to keep the warmth in check.

  • Quick Fix: If skin looks muddy or greenish, bump your Color Phase up by +2 or +3. This is quick fix to keep that golden, vibrant glow!

Final Thoughts

Not for Everyone, But Perfect for Some. The Amarelo 30D is a "love it or hate it" aesthetic. It isn't a "set it and forget it" look for every single wedding or commercial shoot. However, for those who want their work to stand out and tell a story with a specific unique look, this recipe is one of the top choices. It’s a reminder that photography is about more than just capturing reality, it’s about capturing a vibe.
