Not sure if I am using this correctly. Imported the preset into Lightrom. Viewed a Sony A7RV photo, the selected a "classic chrome" preset. Seems to use Adobe color as base profile and adjusts.
Images my Fuji XT with classic chrome simulation produces are slightly desaturated colors but still rich deep colors with touch of extra black/contrast. Images just pops.
However, none lightroom classic chrome 1-5 preset look anything close. Rather dim, dull and washed out. Exposing half a stop higher helps a bit. Color temp is off depending on shot but can adjusted to used as shot or adobe auto.
Does these lightroom presets only work if my photos were using matching in-camera picture profiles?
Hei there Kmochi, Thanks for asking!
The preset is outdated and based off the old classic chrome recipe, which was lower in contrast.
Updating coming soon.
Short answer yes, shooting with Picture Profiles affects the image and colors, and consequently the presets will act differently if applied on images shot without any picture profiles or even different Film Simulations.
Just as a reference, this is how Raw files shot on different Film Simulation will act with the same preset applied on all.
Even tho They are all RAW files and I've applied the same preset, they all look slightly different, that is because the Color Mode is somehow affecting the RAW files.
At the moment we have to settle with this, because there is no way of creating an universal preset which will convert the RAW shot in Provia for example, to look exactly the same like it has been initially shot in Classic Cinema, and that is because Picture Profiles influences the image before it's recorded and that also affects the raw files.
It's like a Filter which manages data and how it acts.
But I have to admit, the reason why your images come out dull and less punchy is because the presets were made on the older version of Classic Chrome Picture Profile, which was based on Cine1 and had a softer contrast, so the preset was emulating that. An update it's on the way fixing these issues and also adding the rest of the Film Simulation recipes which are in Development Stage at the moment.
