Wait, which simulation was I just using?

Here's how to identify which #sonyfilmsimulation and WB setting you have used from your JPG's metadata.

There is just one rule:

Make sure all the FS you have stored in your camera differ in their saturation value by at least 1.

I hardly notice the slide difference in saturation from the original recipe if I have to change it. And of course, you will need a viewer that is not just extracting the basic EXIF data stored with image in the respective JPEG file but also the so-called MakerNotes. On my computer I use XnView MP, which makes use of ExifTool (https://exiftool.org/), and on my phone EXIF Pro does the trick.

Here are just the relevant lines from the metadata that tell me exactly what I did and used.

EXIF

Make SONY

Camera Model Name ILCE-7CM2

Lens Info 135mm f/1.8

Lens Model FE 135mm F1.8 GM

Exposure Program Aperture-priority AE Exposure Time 1/80

F Number 2.2

ISO 3200

Exposure Compensation -2.3

White Balance Manual

MakerNotes

Saturation +x (Well, x will be numerical value, of course.)

WB Shift AB GM 7 -1

WB Shift AB GM Precise 7.00 -1.00

Color Temperature 4700

Image Stabilization On

Vignetting Correction Off

Lateral Chromatic Aberration Auto

Distortion Correction Setting Off

Focus Mode DMF

AF Area Mode Setting Center

Metering Mode 2 Multi-segment

Saturation +x tells me which #sonyfilmsimulation I used, since I made sure that none of the ones I store in my camera has the same saturation value. Plus, I know the color temperature was set to 4700 K with a shift of A 7.00 / G 1.00 (negative values meaning a shift to blue or greeen, resp.), which might not be the value recommended for this FS. But one has to adjust the WB according to the conditions anyhow. So I like the fact that I do not need to write it down every time I press the shutter, like for the picture shown below from which I extracted the metadata listed above.

Hope that helps.

There is a lot more interesting information in the MakerNotes, like sharpness and clarity settings, but also things like ambient temperature (which, I guess, is the temperature of the camera body).

Luckily, there is not sufficient information to recreate a FS from the MakerNotes. ;) And another thing: depending on the editor you are using to crop or rotate your image after retrieving it from the camera/card, you may mess up the MakerNotes. In particular, the AB GM shift will be affected by such edits.
